How do I create a MyID?

Undergrad and graduate students:

The standard method that UGA students use to create their MyID is listed below:

  • Click on "Students" on the left under "Request a MyID"
  • Fill out the web form with the following information:
    • UGA Student ID Number a.k.a. Social Security Number
    • OASIS PIN
    • Desired username (2-8 characters in length. no special characters)
    • Initial password (at least 8 characters and at least one special character)
  • Click "Create MyID"
  • In most cases, the MyID should be created within about 15 minutes, but can sometimes take up to 2 hours to be completely ready.

Common problems with OASIS PIN and MyID Creation:

  • The Registrar's Office has the ability to reset an OASIS PIN to the user's date of birth in a six-digit, mmddyy format. They can be reached at 542-4040.
  • Be advised that any OASIS PIN change made by the Registrar might not be recognized by the MyID creation system until 6AM the following day. So if you reset your PIN, you may need to wait a day until you can request a MyID.

NOTE: Trying to sign up for a MyID more than three times while entering the incorrect OASIS PIN will lock you out of the system until the following day. If this happens, it is probably because the OASIS PIN change has not been recognized by the MyID creation system yet, so you will need to wait a day and try again. Call the Help Desk at 542-3106 if you have any questions about this.

Faculty/Staff:

The standard method that UGA faculty/staff members use to create their MyID is listed below:

  • Click on "Faculty/Staff" on the left under "Request a MyID"
  • Fill out the web form with the following information:
    • University ID Number a.k.a. Social Security Number
    • Date of Birth
    • Desired username (2-8 characters in length. no special characters)
    • Initial password (at least 8 characters and at least one special character)
  • Click "Create MyID"
  • In most cases, the MyID should be created within 15 minutes, but can sometimes take up to 2 hours to be completely ready.

I'm a brand new faculty/staff member and it's telling me I'm not eligible to create an account. What do I do?

UGA ID Number Does Not Appear In Our Datafile:

  • Users sometimes receive an error message say that since their UGA ID# doesn't appear in our datafile, because they may not be eligible for a MyID. If you receive this message, read below:
  • It is not uncommon for brand new employees to see this message when trying to create a MyID. This is because employee information typically takes a few weeks to show up in our datafile. If this is the case, you must create an exception MyID by using the Special MyID Request Form at http://www.uga.edu/newmyid
  • Be advised that creation of an exception MyID can take up to 2-3 business days.

Username Unavailable

  • With 70,000+ MyIDs in the system, it's possible that your first, second, or even third choices for a username could already be taken by another user. You will need to pick a unique username. Use the MyID Test page to see if a particular username is already taken by clicking here: http://www.eits.uga.edu/hostsys/testid.html

You May Already Have an Existing MyID

  • If you are unsure what your existing MyID username is, feel free to call the Help Desk at 542-3106. We can look that information up for you.

Retired Faculty/Staff MyID requests:

If you are retired and you would like a MyID, click the following link and fill out the form:

Departmental/organizational MyID Requests:

How do I create a MyID for my department or student organization?

There is currently no means to request a Departmental/Organizational MyID online. To request one of these accounts:

  • Physically come to our office and bring:
    • A Photo ID (UGA Card will be fine)
    • Something written on official department/organization letterhead stating the need for an account
  • At our Front Desk, you mention that you would like to fill out either the Department MyID Request Form or Student Organization MyID Request Form at the front desk.
  • NOTE: The creation process typically takes approximately 3 business days

NOTE: If you already have a Departmental/Organizational account and need to change the password for this type of account, you can call the Help Desk at 542-3106 and we will change the password.

WEbCT Test Account Requests:

WebCT Test Accounts are special MyIDs that allow instructors to see their own WebCT courses from the student perspective. They are useful tools that instructors can use to troubleshoot their own WebCT issues.

Instructors can request a Test Account online. All they need to do is:

  • Login with their MyID and password.
  • Click on UGA Faculty Resources Bookmark on the far right side of the page.
  • Select Request a Test Account
  • Fill out the onscreen instructions
  • WebCT support will notify the instructor via e-mail when the test account has been created. This process typically takes 2-3 business days.

How do I request the removal/deletion of a MyID of Faculty/Staff that is no longer at UGA?

This feature will soon be available online. Right now, to request the removal of a MyID, you can do this by submitting a ticket request. You will need to include the department name, MyID of the person, and your contact information so that we can verify the removal.

Can I change my MYID?

  • An individual can change their email address/MyID, but (for security reasons) they must come in person to the Computer Services Annex with a photo ID and fill out the "MyID Change Form".
  • If you are out of town and physically unable to come down to our office, you may request this through our ticketing system by sending an email to helpdesk@uga.edu stating what you would like your new MyID to be, and your contact information.
  • The process usually takes 2-3 business days.

How long do I keep my email account after I leave or graduate UGA?

Students:

  • All students are guaranteed use of their MyIDs for two semesters after leaving the University, for whatever reason (graduation, drop out, etc). After those two semesters are up your MyID will be scheduled for deletion during the next MyID deletion process..
  • If you are leaving UGA, we urge you to make arrangements with a 3rd party e-mail provider (such as gmail, yahoo, or hotmail), and forward any important emails accordingly. Or sign up for an alumni account.

Faculty/Staff:

  • UGA Faculty and Staff member MyID accounts have no guarantees attached to them. Once an individual leaves UGA, their MyID will be deleted during the next MyID deletion process.
  • Sometimes departments will contact EITS and request that an ex-employee's MyID be terminated immediately. These requests are handled upon request, so there is no way of knowing exactly how long an account will remain active after leaving UGA as an ex-Fac/Staff member.

Retired Faculty/Staff:

  • Retired Faculty/Staff are handled completely differently. Retired Faculty/Staff member MyIDs are permanent.

Can I get a UGA Alumni e-mail account?

I have changed my name. How do I change the name attached to my MyID?

You may change the full name associated with your MyID (and WebCT) by calling us at 542-3106 or by submitting a ticket request.

Why does my MyID work for my Email, but not other UGA Services that use MyID like certain computer labs?

You may not be able to log in to other services that use MyID until you update your password. Try changing your password:

Why do I have to change my MyID Password?

The UGA password policy can be found at:

What is a strong password?

Strong passwords must contain at least 8 characters. They must also contain at least 1 special character. Click here to see what special characters are allowed.

I would like some advice in creating my new password, what do you suggest?

If you are having troubles thinking of a password that will be compliant, you can try taking your old password and separating each character with some kind of special character, like an "!". If you had a password that did not meet the strong password requirements, try adding punctuation to the end of the password to make it at least 8 characters in length.

I am still having problems with changing my password. What should I do?

Call the Helpdesk at 706-542-3106, or send an email to helpdesk@uga.edu and let us know the problems you are experiencing.
