LDAP Directory Lookup


Click on the email program of your choice for instructions on how to set up LDAP Directory Lookup so UGA e-mail addresses will pull up automatically when a name or e-mail is entered into the to field:

Thunderbird
Microsoft Outlook
Outlook Express
UGAMail

Thunderbird


How to configure Mozilla Thunderbird. Directions and screenshots are from version 1.5.0.8:


1.Open Thunderbird
2.Go to 'Tools'->'Account Settings'
3.Select 'Composition and Addressing'
4.Under 'Addressing', select 'Edit Directories'

5.Click 'Add' then enter the following information:

Name: UGA LDAP (name doesn't matter)
Hostname: directory.uga.edu
Base DN: o=uga, c=us
Port: 389 (default)
Bind DN: (blank)

6.Click 'Okay'
7.Click 'Okay' again
8.Make sure 'Use a different LDAP server' is selected and 'UGA LDAP' (or whatever you named it) is selected from the pulldown list
9.Click 'Okay' and restart computer.

Now when any text is typed into the 'To:' field, possible matches will appear in a pulldown menu.

Note: To download the directory to the computer for much faster performance, go back to the Edit Directories screen, edit the UGA LDAP, select Offline tab and then click Download Now.

 

Outlook 2003/XP


How to configure Outlook 2003 or Outlook XP.

Note: If you are using Outlook XP then you are advised to make sure that you have Office XP Service Pack 3 applied, otherwise you may experience problems with Outlook not working reliably.

1.Select 'Tools' -> 'Email Accounts...'

2. Select 'Add a new directory or address book' then select Next


3. Select 'Internet Directory Service (LDAP)' then select Next



4. For 'Server Name' type 'directory.uga.edu'

5.Select 'More Settings...' You will get a warning that you will have to restart Outlook before this new directory service will work, just select OK to proceed.
6.Select the 'Search' tab and in the 'Search Base' field enter 'o=uga, c=us'

7.Select 'Okay' to save your changes
8. Select Next then Finish to end the wizard.

Note: You will need to restart Outlook before you can use the new LDAP entry.

To use the LDAP Directory, when composing a new message, select 'To:' and make sure that 'Show Names from the:' pulldown menu has 'directory.uga.edu' selected. Click on 'Advanced' -> 'Find...' and type part of the name in the 'Name' field. Under 'Substring Matching' select 'Contains' then select 'Okay.' Highlight the correct name then select 'To:' to add the name and address to your message.

Note: To add a person to your 'Address Book' right click on the person and select 'Add to Personal Address Book.'

Outlook 2000/Express


How to configure Outlook 2000 and Outlook Express
1.Select 'Tools' -> 'Accounts...'



2.Click 'Add' -> 'Directory Service'

3.In the 'Internet directory (LDAP) server:' field type 'directory.uga.edu' then click 'Next'

4.Select 'Yes' then 'Next' and 'Finish'

6.Highlight 'directory.uga.edu' then select 'Properties'
7.On the 'Advanced' tab in the 'Search base:' field type 'o=uga, c=us'

8.Click 'Okay' then 'Close'

Now when composing a new message, click on the 'To:' field then 'Find...'. For 'Look in:' select 'directory.uga.edu'. Enter part of the name then click 'Find Now'.

You can select 'Add to Address Book' to add a specific person to your local Address book, or select 'To:', 'Cc:', or 'Bcc'.

Webmail


How to configure Webmail.
1.Login to Webmail at http://ugamail.uga.edu
2.Click 'Address Book'
3.Click 'Find Contacts

4Click 'Directory Service'

5.Click 'Add Service'

6.Enter a description in the Description field. For example, 'UGA'
7.Enter ‘directory.uga.edu’ in the 'LDAP Server' field.
8.Enter ‘o=uga,c=us’ in the 'Search Root' field.

9.Click the 'Done' button.
10.Click 'Done' again to return to the ‘Find Contacts’ screen.

To search for people, make sure that UGA is selected from the 'Find in:' pulldown menu, enter part of a name in the 'Name' field and then click 'Find'. Possible matches and the corresponding e-mail and phone numbers from the UGA directory will be displayed. You can also access this now from the 'Address Book' when composing a message.
