Internet/Networking/Wireless FAQ

 

 

I'm having trouble accessing the internet from my dorm room. Can you help me?

Student Tech Support will be able to assist in getting connectivity in the dorm rooms. You can contact them at 542-3333. You can also view the STS Connection Guide at http://www.uga.edu/sts/buyd.html.

 

Why can't I connect to the wireless network?

PAWS is the wireless network that UGA provides to anyone with a valid MyID and password. You may not be able to connect to PAWS because it is not available in your current location. A map of PAWS coverage can be found here: http://www.eits.uga.edu/paws/locations.html. Try connecting in an area where there is a strong signal. For questions regarding PAWS, contact Student Tech Support (STS) at 542-3333.

 

Why can't my office/department/building connect to the UGA network?

If your building or department cannot connect to the UGA network (including the internet), it may be because there is a network outage. If you have inhouse IT people, make sure they are aware of the problem. If you do not have inhouse IT people, call the Help Desk at 542-3106 and let us know the building or area that is having connectivity issues, and we will be able to send someone from Network Operations to assist.

 

Internet connections in my office/department/building are really slow. Can you help?

If your building or department is experiencing slow network performance, (including the internet), it may be because there is a large-scale network issue. If you have inhouse IT people, make sure they are aware of the problem. Call the Helpdesk at 542-3106 and let us know the building or area that is experiencing connectivity issues, and we will be able to send someone from Network Operations to assist.

 

It's after 5pm or on a weekend... who can help with my network issues?

EITS Help Desk normal business hours are:

8AM - 9PM (Mon-Thur), 8AM - 6PM (Fri), 1PM - 7PM (Sat, Sun)

For UGA Network issues after the above hours, call 542-3106 and press "3" to report the issue location and your contact information with our Network Operations Center. A technician is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and they will be notified of the issue.
